Barbeque Pro technician cleaning the inside of a pellet grill

Professional pellet grill & smoker cleaning

Toronto, the GTA, Ottawa, Barrie and 11 locations across Ontario

A pellet grill isn’t a gas BBQ, and it shouldn’t be cleaned like one. Ash in the firepot, grease on the drip tray and dust in the hopper are what cause temperature swings, flameouts and grease fires. Our technicians degrease and mechanically clean the firepot, heat baffle, grates and the complete interior, bringing your grill back to an almost new condition, and send you before and after photos the same day.

What we clean, part by part

Every pellet grill moves fuel, fire, grease and smoke along the same path. Each stop along it collects something different, and each one changes how your grill cooks.

1 2 3 4 5 6 7
  1. Hopper

Pellets that sit through a humid summer or a wet winter soak up moisture, swell and crumble into sawdust. We empty the hopper, vacuum out the dust and check your pellets before they go back in.

  2. Firepot

Where the pellets burn. When ash piles up here it chokes the air supply, and the grill lights slowly, drifts off temperature or flames out mid-cook. We vacuum it out completely and check the igniter.

  3. Heat baffle

The steel plate over the firepot that spreads the heat. It collects ash on top and baked-on carbon underneath. We thoroughly degrease it and mechanically clean it on both sides, so heat moves evenly again.

  4. Drip tray and grease drain

Most pellet grill fires start here. Grease pools on the tray and hardens in the drain channel until one hot cook sets it off. We degrease the tray, open up the channel all the way to the bucket, and empty the bucket.

  5. Grates

Thoroughly degreased and mechanically cleaned on both sides, the same way as the heat baffle, bringing them back to an almost new condition.

  6. Barrel and lid interior

The complete interior gets the same treatment. Walls, floor and the inside of the lid are degreased and mechanically cleaned, bringing the inside of your grill back to an almost new condition.

  7. Temperature probe

The controller feeds the fire based on what this probe reads, and a probe coated in grease reads wrong. We clean it gently so the number on the screen matches the heat inside.

Cabinet, vertical and offset smokers

No firepot or hopper to service, but the same care applies. Racks, water pan, drip tray and chip tray are degreased and mechanically cleaned. The door seal and glass are cleaned so the door closes tight again, and the walls, ceiling and floor get the same interior treatment as a pellet grill.

What to expect on the day

The same communication you get with every Barbeque Pro visit, with a cleaning process built for pellet grills and smokers.

  1. A heads-up before we arrive

You’ll get a message through our app when your technician is on the way. You don’t need to be home. We just need to reach the grill, a water tap and an outdoor outlet.

  2. Test and photograph

We power the grill up and check that pellets feed, the fan runs, the igniter heats and the temperature reads properly. If something isn’t right, the technician sends the details to our office so we can tell you about the repair or part. Then we take detailed “before” photos.

  3. Strip down and vacuum

We protect the work area, then the grates, drip tray and heat baffle come out. Ash is vacuumed from the firepot and the floor of the barrel, and dust from the hopper.

  4. Degrease and mechanically clean

The heat baffle, the grates and the complete interior are thoroughly degreased and mechanically cleaned, bringing them back to an almost new condition. The drip tray is degreased, the grease channel and drain are opened up, and the bucket is emptied.

  5. Wash and polish the outside

Lid, shelves, legs and hopper are washed and polished from top to bottom. Water stays well away from the controller, the hopper opening and the wiring.

  6. Rebuild, check and report

Everything goes back in the right order and we confirm the grill starts up properly. You get “after” photos and completion notes in the app, so there’s a clear record of the whole job.

When to book a cleaning

Traeger’s own maintenance schedule calls for a deep clean of the inside after every 20 to 24 hours of cooking, and a grease channel clean every six months. Most owners never get close to that, which is why grease and ash are behind most pellet grill problems.

We recommend a professional deep clean at least once a year, ideally in spring before the season starts. If you cook every week, or you do a lot of long, fatty cooks like brisket and pork shoulder, a second clean mid-season is worth it.

Signs yours is overdue

  • The temperature wanders well away from the number you set
  • It’s slow to light, or the fire goes out partway through a cook
  • Thick white smoke, or a bitter taste in the food
  • Black flakes dropping from the lid onto the grates
  • You can smell old grease as it heats up
  • Error codes showing on the controller

Pellet grill and smoker cleaning questions

How much does pellet grill and smoker cleaning cost?

Regular pellet grills (up to 800 sq. in.) are $254.99. XL and premium pellet grills (over 800 sq. in., including built-in models) are $329.99. Cabinet, vertical and offset smokers are $254.99. Find your unit to see open dates at your nearest location.

Which pellet grills and smokers do you clean?

All the major brands: Traeger, Pit Boss, Yoder Smokers, Green Mountain Grills, Z Grills, Memphis Wood Fire Grills, Weber, Napoleon and Broil King pellet models, plus cabinet and offset smokers from Masterbuilt, Bradley, Oklahoma Joe’s and others. Built-in and cart models are both fine. If yours isn’t listed, send us a photo.

How is cleaning a pellet grill different from cleaning a gas BBQ?

A gas BBQ is burners, flame tamers and a firebox. A pellet grill adds a hopper, an auger, a firepot, a fan, an igniter and a digital controller, and it makes ash as well as grease. That means more vacuuming and hand work, a grease path that has to be opened end to end, and electronics that need to stay dry. It’s a different job, so we price and schedule it separately.

Do you use water or harsh cleaners inside the grill?

The hopper, auger, controller and wiring stay dry, because wet pellets swell and jam the feed and electronics don’t mix with water. Ash comes out with a vacuum. Grease is scraped and removed with a food-safe degreaser, then wiped out. Removable parts like grates and the drip tray are washed separately.

How clean will my grill actually get?

Very. The heat baffle, the grates and the complete interior are thoroughly degreased and mechanically cleaned, which brings them back to an almost new condition. The outside is washed and polished. You’ll see the difference in the before and after photos we send the same day.

Do I need to empty the pellets first?

No, leave everything as it is. We empty the hopper as part of the clean. If your pellets are dry and in good shape they go back in. If they’ve swollen or crumbled, we’ll let you know so you can start the season with a fresh bag.

What if something on my grill isn’t working?

We test the grill before we start. If the igniter, fan, auger motor, temperature probe or controller isn’t doing its job, the technician sends the details to our office and we’ll follow up about the repair or replacement part. Barbeque Pro handles BBQ repairs and parts as well as cleaning.

How long does it take, and do I need to be home?

Most visits take between one and two hours, depending on the size of the unit and how long it’s been. You don’t need to be home. As long as we can reach the grill, a water tap and an outdoor outlet, we’ll message you when we’re on the way and send photos and notes when we’re done.

Do you clean pellet grills in Mississauga, Ottawa and across the GTA?

Yes. Barbeque Pro has 11 Ontario locations, including Toronto, Mississauga, Vaughan, Ottawa, Barrie, Hamilton, Pickering, Newmarket, Caledon, Collingwood and Muskoka. Pick your unit, choose your location and you’ll see the open dates.

More than one grill on the patio?

Plenty of our customers run a pellet grill beside a gas BBQ or a ceramic. We clean those too, each with its own process and its own pricing.
